Sweet 60s an era that praises bright colors, vibrancy and geometric patterns, for us Greeks the Golden Age of Greek cinema! From the innocence of our childhood and the sleepless summer nights of youth at Sunday dinner tables, afternoon siestas on the sofa and family moments with our loved ones – somewhere in the background there is always a Greek movie playing that we will secretly watch, not of course because we don't know the plot, but to travel nostalgically with protagonists mythical and at the same time familiar to another era, to another Greece, which the younger people did not live but perceive it, they too, as their own.
The majority of the period's productions were shot in the 1960s, when Greek cinema reached its peak, producing not only the most films per capita in the world, but also receiving numerous international accolades. Therefore, by definition, most of them are deeply influenced, consciously or not, by the radical changes that the 60s brought about in society, morals, culture, style and decoration. Three are the ones we singled out, however, that make us, with each iteration, want more and more to live in the 60s.
We couldn't help but start with "An Italian woman from the hive" and the unique Maro Kontou in the role of Bianca, student of Fine Arts and wife of Antonis (Alekos Alexandrakis). In their attempt to get their relationship accepted, they present Bianca as Italian to his family! In a setting full of euphoria, the culture and perceptions of the people of the time are vividly described. Without a doubt, the spectacular costumes with brightly colored fabrics steal the show even today. Green, yellow, blue and orange in psychedelic patterns and bold combinations. So Sweet 60s is not possible without a play of textures and colors, an era we love and want its influences in our personal space as well!
